Well, it's that time of year again. Time to buy a present for someone you've only spoken to three times, all of them about work.
Here at GAAPweb we've just chosen our names for Secret Santa and I have to say, I've been pretty lucky this year. So, this being the season of goodwill, rather than sit back smugly in the knowledge that mine's all taken care of, I thought I'd help those of you who are having a harder time of it. Think of it as my gift to you.
Here are my tip top ideas for some brilliant Secret Santa gifts for your fellow Finance professionals:
1. A CD by Steven Zelin, "the Singing CPA" (click here to see his CDs and hear some song samples)
A regular Renaissance man, this fellow. Not only does he run his own private practice specialising in small business and individual tax and accounting, he's also an accomplished public speaker, stand-up comedian and musician.
2. A pair of "Trust Me... I'm an Accountant" cufflinks (see here)
For the Accountant with everything, a gift that will make them wish they'd chosen a different career.
3. An "Accounting is accrual profession" sweatshirt (see here)
What better gift than one that makes the wearer look witty and chic.
4. A share in WorldCom Inc (see here)
The US Telecommunications firm that used fraudulent accounting methods to inflate the company's assets by around $11 billion. On July 21, 2002 they filed for bankruptcy in the largest such filing in US history at the time (since overtaken by the Lehman brothers). And yes, it is a real share.
5. An H2O water-powered Accountant's calculator (see here)
It's useful, it's eco-friendly. Great for those altruistic souls who work in Not-for-Profit.
